This is the classic issue face with many decision we have to make. Thomas Sowell informed us there are no solutions only traded off. With energy the trade offs come down the one thing energy entropy or Energy Return on Energy Invested (E.R.O.E.I) the amount of energy need to pass the energy hurdle rate that makes that energy source defacto. We can look at Norway as a case study a country with no fossil fuel grid and the highest EV adoption rate-helped by it's low population and hydro grid-oil demand has not had any material decline. The reason because of diesle demand. Economies like Norway- heavy industries-counterintuitive creats a higher demand for diesel which if EV adoption continue and gasoline declines-like it has in Norway-to mining the materials and metal needed. However, refining oil which will continue is not that control, that is when you refine you get the products and the yeild is depend it on the grade. You can't say I just want the 26% that is not gasoline it doesn't work that way. So if oil is still going to by use because of desile demand and chemicals, gasoline will still be produce and if we have an energy source out there, it will get used.

As pointed out, about 26% of a barrel of oil is used to make all the products we make besides fuel that help keep our civilization running. Unfortunately, if we stop making fuel the other 26% of the remarkable hydrocarbon molecule is economically unaccessible with current technology.
