Manhattan Return
1
I arrived at LaGuardia,
entering its new airport.
An Uber driver
tried scalping me big-time.
Manhattan is stuffed
with UN meeting
filled with charlatans begging
climate preachers preaching.
2
Strolling the Big Apple bedrock,
I found fewer big city souls
side walking
Fear is the city’s new ghost
palpable.
My cab ride
tidal waves of traffic.
So slow,
a woman in a wheelchair
passed us in Times Square.
I used to love
poetic home of Walt Whitman,
now it’s almost unrecognizable.
Vacancy gone wild.
3
I felt like a 78 year old
Huck Finn of yesterday
a hole in my pants.
Another confused
Midwestern
in a strange land
lost.
