Liberals up until now: “It’s climate change, not the weather!!!!!!”
Liberals now: “Also, we must politicize the weather!!!!!!!!”
I swear I do not make this stuff up - who could?
Writing in the New York Times today - because of course it’s the New York Times - economist Paul Krugman, who has been uniformly wrong about every economic issue in this century, takes a turn pontificating about climate change, I suppose in hopes of improving his batting average.
As is his habit, Krugman says something incredibly dumb, but something that his wealthy housewife readers on the Upper East Side will just love: We must, simply must, now politicize the weather. Actually, Krugman didn’t just say ‘must,’ but the even more imperative ‘absolutely’ instead.
Here’s the money quote: “we absolutely should politicize the weather.”
Why does he advocate this now, after his fellow liberals have spent the last 30 years denying they were politicizing the weather as a means of raising fear and hysteria about the all-powerful, yet nebulous “climate change?”
Well, see, it’s all about raising even more fear and hysteria about the all-powerful, yet nebulous “climate change.”
Oh.
Check out Krugman in his own words:
In practice, environmental policy probably won’t be a central issue in the 2024 campaign, which will mainly turn on the economy and social issues. Still, we’re living in a time of accelerating climate-related disasters, and the environmental extremism of the Republican Party — it is more hostile to climate action than any other major political party in the advanced world — would, in a more rational political debate, be the biggest election issue of them all.
[End]
So, in reality, nothing is going to change: Those on the political left will continue politicizing literally everything that happens with the weather as a means of hyping “climate change.” The only thing Krugman proposes changing is for his fellow leftwingers to admit they are politicizing the weather as a means of hyping “climate change.”
But of course, Krugman won’t admit that. Because, well, Krugman.
That is all.
