The New York Energy plan always was unrealistic and became impossible with Indian Point shut down.

Meanwhile, back at the ranch China has taken 5½ to 7 years to build its most recently completed nuclear reactors, the longer period probably the result of COVID disruptions (Breakthrough Institute). One gigawatt would make the planned reactor one of the smallest in the US fleet.

I'm not a big fan of new US nuclear. The cost per kWh won't be much less than renewables, and comparable to the high prices that Europe is paying. I have previously said on these pages that if environmentalist politicians were serious about EVs they would eliminate the tariffs on Chinese imports. Likewise they should get the Chinese to build new nuclear, to Chinese standards, not the excessively high standards mandated by US and European regulators.

Oh and if Musk wants Tesla to survive he should remember, if you can't lick 'em join 'em. He should buy a Chinese EV manufacturer like Xaoimi, which the CEO of Ford endorses.
