My father was showing us his hometown of Scranton about sixty years ago. He stopped at the top of a hill and told us about a man he met that told he and his pals a story they would never forget. The man was getting on. Dad was maybe 8. The man told them the story how his father had taken him to see Lincoln lying in State. He said to put American history in perspective, that they will have known a guy who had seen Lincoln. So I now knew a guy, Dad, who knew a guy that had seen Lincoln. Three degrees of separation. Incredible.
