Usually neophytes that spout the idea that "intermittents" can replace fossil fuels, they really mean that it can substantially replace ELECTRICAL ENERGY but only in bright breezy sunshine. With calm nights, forgetaboutit! But in most developed countries, ELECTRICAL ENERGY is only 20% of their total energy required. So wind and power can't even attain 20% much/most of the time. WHAT ABOUT THE OTHER 80 to 90%?? (fuels, diesel fuel, jet fuel, industrial feedstocks).
“I believe we will cure cancer in seven years. It will be simple and easy. Step One - discover a drug that cures cancer. Step Two - implement this technology into our medical system. See! Easy peasy.”
Good article. It sounds like the experts on the panel know it cannot be accomplished without a game changing discovery around energy. Which might never happen. It also sounds like they don’t want to come out and say ‘stop it!’
Dear Mr. Caiazza, thank you for the interesting and detailed information and analysis. Two questions:
1. Suppose one were a New Yorker directly affected (I’m not) and wanted to help stop the madness, what steps could be useful/effective? Next week there will be a meeting of the Public Service Council https://dps.ny.gov/event/april-2024-public-service-commission-session, which seems to be in charge of the Department of Public Service. Would that be a suitable venue?
2. This type of insanity/disinformation is playing out all over the world. How can this type of analysis be distilled to guide others around the world who want to apply the sound principles to their local situation?
Mark Jacobson is patron-actor.
